Washing clothes in Pakistan

Hardworking strong women of Pakistan’s rural areas afford the burden of washing clothes of the whole family. They collect carry the bundles of clothes, quilts and bed sheets to the nearby rivers or ponds and wash the clothes and enjoy the nature at its purest, while their kids enjoy swimming or showering in the water.

The following pictures are of such bold women of our country who are not aware of what goes on Pakistani and western media in their name.

Village Woman of Pakistan

Some may talk numerous negative things about Pakistani women folk but truth is Pakistani women in villages are heappy, healthy & hard working. They are very humble and down to earth folks they don’t controll their home like hitlar rather they raise the family with their men folk equally.

Villages of Pakistan are not talked about a lot as when we talk about Pakistan we only speak about the urban people who do not find much to do and do all sorts of ill things. The folks in the villages get up very early men go to their fields at about 6AM to do ploughing, harvesting or to wather the crops while women get their kids ready and cook for breakfast. Men usually return at 9 -10AM and do their breakfast.

Pakistan is a society where recycling is not a foreign thing every thing is used for or other purpose. The wheat straw is used for fodder, The stalk (Stem) of cotton is used for fire wood and even the animal dung is used for several purposes. Animal Dung is used for plastering walls with mixture of mud & straw. It is also used for Dung Cakes, Dung is dried on walls or on planes and when dry it is used as fire wood.

Ph.D Scholarship Programme for Pakistani Nationals

In 2006 Norway was included as a country of destination for candidates in Pakistan’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Ph.D. in Selected Fields.

The scheme is financed and administrated by the Pakistani Higher Education Commission (HEC).

HEC has made funding available for an unspecified number of scholarships per year for Ph.D. students going to Norway. The scholarship is fully covered by HEC for a maximum of 60 months and includes funding for travel and subsistence in addition to other specified costs pertaining to the candidates’ stay at Norwegian institutions. In return, scholarship recipients undertake to return to Pakistan with a Ph.D.-degree at the end of the specified period, and to serve in Pakistan for a period of at least 5 years. Failure to return with a Ph.D.-degree, or to comply with any other of the requirements specified make it incumbent on the graduates to repay the scholarship.

Please note that SIU does not accept applications to this programme. All inquiries regarding admissions and submission of applications to the programme should be directed to HEC.

Aim
The stated aim of the programme is to improve Pakistan’s national research capacity. Scholarship recipients will follow Ph.D. programmes in a partner country in the following disciplines: such as engineering and technology, life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, business education, arts and humanities. The scholarship programme currently includes the following countries: Australia, Austria, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, UK and the United States.

Selection procedures
The scholarship programme is advertised nationwide in Pakistan. Applications are subject to a two-tiered selection process:

First all applicants undergo a preliminary selection process in Pakistan, including scrutiny of academic credentials, language testing and GRE-type testing.
Then, on the basis of written tests, a select number of applicants are called for an interview.
The applicants are assessed against various criteria in order to form an opinion of their aptitude for Ph.D. studies, degree of motivation, presentation skills, confidence, relevancy of the research proposal, and possibilities to place them in Norwegian institutions. Interviews in the final selection round are conducted by SIU and HEC together. Final admission will be subject to rules and regulations governing higher education in Norway and remains the sole responsibility of Norwegian institutions.

SIU’s role
SIU acts as national programme office in Norway. This includes assistance with placement of qualified candidates, further contact with host institutions to ensure adequate welfare, required insurance, provide student counselling, monitoring of performance, make payments to the scholarship recipients and the host institutions, and make substantive and financial reports to HEC. If there are problems while scholarship recipients are studying, SIU can propose solutions and advise HEC accordingly.

Pakistani Girl Gets Scholarship from L’Oreal

lshrat BANO a PhD student in Bionanotechnology at the Quaid-I-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan has been selected for L’Oreals fellowship at University of Cambridge UK

Her research focuses on the practical applications of nanotechnology in medicine.

Nanoparticles are particles with dimensions of iess than 100nm (a nanometer is one-biliionth of a meter} and are attracting a lot of interest in the field of drug development. Their small size and ability to transport drugs directly to target locations open up many possibilities for more efhcient and effective drug delivery, particularly in cancer patients.

Ishrat Bano is looking into the use of magnetic narioparticles in drug delivery. These offer the additional advantage of being more easily directed to diseased tissue through the use of an external magnetic field to direct the particles. Because they can target so efficiently, they also reduce the quantity of drug required to reach the appropriate concentration in the target location, therefore minimizing severe side effects in other, healthy parts ofthe body. However, magnetic particles have a tendency to stick together and cause potential blockage in the tiny capillaries of the blood system.

lt is therefore essential that the particles used are superparamagnetic — only exhibiting magnetism in the presence of an external magnetic field. During her fellowship she will receive training in the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles adapted to drug delivery.

The ability of these particles to transport drugs is affected by acidity, temperature and the binding sites on the drug moIecuIe`s surface. She will test different methods of drug binding using insulin as a model protein drug and, using acidic solutions to simulate the conditions found in the stomach, she will also test the stability ofthe insulin-loaded particles and their ability to release the drug.

On return to Pakistan, Ishrat Bano will complete her PhD studies and then, as a postdoctoral researcher, she hopes to have the chance to make an important contribution tothe field of drug delivery using bionariotechnology.

Pakistani Girls should apply for L’Oreal’s scholarship & fellowships which run every year. More details can be found on L’Oreals web site at http://www.loreal.com Please also keep visiting this site for special announcemnts for such oppartunities by different sources.
